Disaster is not new to the Houston area.

Hurricanes, tornadoes, ice storms and devastating

floods have all ravaged Houston and the gulf coast region. Along with these disasters came new, unplanned, unexpected and unique utility problems. Although planning is always in the forefront, there is no substitute for the experience earned from 30 plus years of addressing and overcoming such problems during a disaster. Living and working through these disasters has made Emergency Response a major area of expertise at North Houston Pole Line.

We are ready, willing and able to respond whenever and wherever our vast experience, services and expertise is needed. An example of this occurred when Hurricane Isabel hit the East Coast on September 18, 2003. According to Dominion Virginia Power, Hurricane Isabel was the worst storm in Dominion’s 100-year history. More than 1.8 million customers lost power. Isabel wreaked catastrophic damage to Dominion’s overhead electrical facilities in Virginia and northeast North Carolina. North Houston Pole Line responded to the needs of our fellow countrymen and Dominion Power with its expertise and manpower.

We sent numerous fully equipped crews to assist in restoration. During the two-week effort, North Houston Pole Line, along with many other crews, replaced or restored 10,705 utility poles, 14,610 pole cross-arms, 13,018 spans of wire and 7,900 transformers were replaced at more than 57,000 separate work locations across a 30,000-square-mile service area.
Jimmy D. Staton, senior vice president of Operations at Dominion stated, “This truly was a phenomenal restoration effort. I want to thank all the crews who came in from out of state to assist us.”
