SAFETY PROGRAM SUMMARY Program Contents
1 – Screening New Hires/Initial Video Training
Each new hire is screened prior to being hired and their references checked as necessary. Each new hire goes through North Houston Pole Line’s initial video training as part of their sign-on process.
2 - Safety Committee
The Company Safety Committee meets regularly to discuss safety concerns, regulation up-dates, accidents, near miss incidents and recommendations to improve our safety program.
3 - Safety Manual
North Houston Pole Line’s safety manual outlines company responsibilities, employee responsibilities, safe work practices, policies and procedures. The safety manual is reviewed and updated as necessary based on accidents, near misses and changes to local, state and Federal Laws.
4 – Job Briefings and Daily Job Hazard Analysis
Foremen are required to hold and document daily job hazard analysis briefings with their crews. These briefings are used to identify hazards associated with the work, outline work procedures to eliminate the hazards and specify personal protective equipment requirements.
5 - On-site Safety Surveys/Audits
The Safety Director or the Director’s assistant sees that regular visits are made to operating projects to verify that all employees are in compliance with current safety policies and procedures. Foremen are responsible for correcting any un-safe condition immediately, and to work diligently to provide a safe and healthy workplace for all employees.
6 - “Safety Tip” Check Attachments
Employees may, from time to time, receive a safety-oriented publication with their paycheck. The purpose of the check attachment is to educate, inform and enhance a positive safety attitude as well as demonstrate management’s commitment to providing a safe and healthy work environment.
7 - Drug Free Workplace
All employees must submit to pre-employment drug testing, post accident and random testing as required by job classification and as allowed by state law.
8 - Safety Rule Enforcement Policy
All employees must adhere to the safety rules and regulations. Those employees found to be in violation, will be dealt with in accordance with our Standards of Conduct Policy and our Disciplinary Action Policy.
9 - Safety Training
Specific training programs are conducted on project sites and at our corporate office depending on requirements and needs. North Houston Pole Line has specific in-house developed training programs that are supplemented with practical training (using in-house and third party consultants), videos and models in the following areas: Health & Safety Program, Crane Safety, CPR/First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communication, Emergency Action Plan, Traffic Control, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Ladder Safety, OSHA ET&D 10 and 30 Hour programs, Personal Protective Equipment, Pole Top and Bucket Rescue Training, Forklift, DOT Gas Pipeline Operator Qualification Training, Fire Safety and Prevention. |
